Madison County 2004 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA in Madison County, Alabama, will hold a signup batching period from March 15 through April 16, 2004, for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. Sign up is on a continuous basis; however applications will be ranked at the end of established batching periods. Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on cropland or grazing land may apply for assistance through this program. Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Madison County USDA Service Center located at 819 Cook Avenue, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 256-532-1692 Ext 3, and the office fax number is 256-539-6484. The local contact person is Danny Williams, District Conservationist.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Madison County as:

  1. Erosion on Cropland
  2. Grazing lands

Funds will be divided by priority as follows:

  1. Erosion on Cropland 60%
  2. Grazing lands 40%

If funds cannot be obligated in one category due to lack of applications these funds will be used in the other category.

Applications that provide the most environmental benefits will score the highest points. In case of a tie between two or more applicants the contract needing the least amount of cost-share dollars will prevail. Contracts will be developed within each resource concern in order of descending points, until all funds are obligated.

Eligible practices and cost-share rates approved by the Madison County USDA work group are listed below. Conservation practices that address the resource concerns will come from this list.

Applications may also be taken on-line at: http://www.sc.egov.usda.gov. Additional information is available at: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip/.
