Marengo County 2004 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The local EQIP program signup for 2004 is now open. EQIP is a voluntary program that provides assistance to farmers and producers who face threats to soil, water, air, and other related natural resources on their land. Eligible land includes cropland, pastureland, private non-industrial timberland, and other farm lands. If you have a resource concern or problem on your land that you need assistance to solve, and are interested in the EQIP program, please come by the USDA Service Center at 210 North Shiloh Street, Linden, Alabama, and fill out an application, or contact us at (334) 295-8724 extension 3. The deadline for consideration and ranking of applications will be April 16, 2004. Unfunded applications will be kept on hand and will be considered for funding at a later date, if additional funds become available.

All applications will be ranked and approved based on a state-wide ranking worksheet. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost-share assistance than those with lower point totals.

EQIP funds will be used to address local resource concerns in Marengo County. The local workgroup has prioritized the local resource concerns in the following order:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  3. Soil Erosion/Soil Quality
  4. At Risk Species/Declining Habitats
  5. Water Conservation

The local workgroup also decided to earmark $25,000.00 of the initial allocation of funds to be put toward the Soil Erosion/Soil Quality concern.

The state EQIP cost-share rates and list of practices will be used as the eligible EQIP cost-share rates and practices for Marengo County.
