Tallapoosa County 2004 EQIP Program


Executive Summary

The Natural Resources Conservation Service of the USDA in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2004 fiscal year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland or forestland for at-risk species may apply for assistance through this program. Applications may be made at the NRCS or FSA office of the Tallapoosa/Coosa County USDA Service Center located at 1995 Cherokee Road, Alexander City, Alabama, 35010 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is (256) 329-3084, ext. 3. The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Tallapoosa County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  3. Soil Quality/ Erosion
  4. At-Risk Species Habitat
  5. Water Conservation and Reduction

All applications will be ranked using an environmental benefits work sheet and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated.

Applications will be “batched” and ranked during the year. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be April 16, 2004. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if funds are available or additional funds become available). Applications will be batched every 30 days until funds are exhausted. The last batching period is August 16. 2004.

Please refer to the state list for practices, cost-share rates, and restrictions. Limited Resource Farmers may receive a higher cost-share percentage of 90 percent.
