Walker County 2004 EQIP
Program
Executive Summary
The Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA in Walker County, Alabama,
will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for
the 2004 Fiscal year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any
eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland,
cropland, or hayland may apply for assistance through this program. Applications
may be made at the NRCS office of the Walker County NRCS Field Office located at
1710 Alabama Avenue, Room 207, Carl Elliot Building, Jasper, Alabama 35502. The
telephone number is (205) 387-1879. The Farm Service Agency located on 415 5th
Avenue East Suite B, Oneonta, Alabama 35121 will also be taking applications.

Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Walker County
as:
- Animals/Grazing Systems - priority 1
- Water Quality/Animal Waste - priority 1
- At Risk Species - priority 1
- Water Conservation - priority 5
- Erosion/Soil Quality - priority 5
Approved applications will be those that provide the greatest environmental
benefits. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of
descending environmental points.
Applications will be batched several times during the year. The first
batching period will end on April 15, 2004. Any applications received after this
date will be considered in the next batching pool if funds are available. In
case of a tie between ranking sheets, the tiebreaker will be based upon the
contract with the least cost.
Eligible Practices and cost-share rates will be the same as those set by the
State Technical Committee and State Conservationist (below). Planned
conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come
from this list.
