Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Autauga County, Alabama, announces that the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) sign-up for 2006 is open and applications are being taken on a continuous basis.

If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, or forestland on your farm that you need assistance in treating, visit the local NRCS Office and make an application. Appointments are encouraged.

Applications will be taken at the following Autauga County location by NRCS:

Autaugaville Ag-Center
2226 Hwy 14 West, Suite A & Suite C
Autaugaville, Al 36003
Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Phone: 334-365-5124, extension 101

Applications will be taken through January 6, 2006, and be ranked using the state approved ranking sheets. Any funds not allocated during the first batching period will be available for subsequent batching periods as needed.  Limited Resource Farmers may be eligible to receive up to 90 percent cost-share.

The local concerns that have been prioritized are:

1. Water Quality/Animal waste
2. Grazing Lands
3. Eroding Cropland/Soil Quality
4. Water Conservation

All applications will be ranked and approved based on an environmental ranking worksheet that will insure the most environmental benefit is received for the program dollar expended. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost share assistance than those individuals with lower points. In the event of a tie between applications, the application with the lowest cost for benefits obtained will be considered for cost share assistance. Secondary ties will be ranked and awarded using the Autauga County watershed assessment priority rankings.

All conservation practices in the NRCS State approved list will be available for use in solving the conservation needs on the farm. Various conservation practice such as no-till/con-till will have an acre limit per applicant and a three year adoption of technology period limit. Cost-share rates on all other practices will be the same as listed in the NRCS State approved list. The state-wide ranking sheet for the above listed resource concerns will be used in ranking the applications.
