Chilton County 2006 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Chilton County, Alabama, will hold a sign-up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2006 fiscal year.  This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, or forestland on your farm that you need assistance in treating, visit the NRCS Office and make an application at the USDA-NRCS Office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located at 731 Logan Road, Clanton.  Phone is 205-755-1951, extension 3. Appointments are encouraged.

Applications will be taken through January 6, 2006, and be ranked using the state approved ranking sheets. Any funds not allocated during the first batching period will be available for subsequent batching dates.

The local concerns that have been prioritized are:

1. Eroding cropland/soil quality
2. Grazing lands
3. Forest health and wildlife
4. Water quality/animal waste
5. Water conservation

All applications will be ranked and approved based on an environmental ranking worksheet that will insure the most environmental benefit is received for the program dollar expended. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost share assistance than those individuals with lower points. In the event of a tie between applications, the application with the lowest cost for benefits obtained will be considered for cost share assistance. Secondary ties will be ranked and awarded using the Chilton County watershed assessment priority rankings.

All conservation practices listed in the Alabama State NRCS Practice and Restrictions List will be available for use in solving the conservation needs on the farm.

Various conservation practice such as no-till/con-till will have an 100 acre limit per applicant and a 3-year adoption of technology period limit.  Perimeter fencing shall be cost-sharable with the following stipulations:  participant will also install cross fence(s) to adequately permit the distribution of grazing and implement rotational grazing.  The perimeter fence shall be for lands in permanent forages of desirable forage species; or plant a desirable species that will provide nutrients to livestock. 

Cost-share rates on all other practices will be the same as listed in the state NRCS approved list. The state-wide ranking sheet for the above listed resource concerns will be used in ranking the applications.
