Lawrence County 2006 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Lawrence County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2006 fiscal year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, animal waste, or hay land may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS or FSA office of the Lawrence County USDA Service Center located at 13075 AL Hwy 157, Suite 4, and Moulton, Alabama 35650, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 256-974-1176, extension 3, and the fax number is 256-974-4404. The local contact person is Billy Frost, District Conservationist.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Lawrence County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Erosion/Soil Quality
  3. Water Quality (Animal Waste)
  4. Water Conservation
  5. Forest and Wildlife Habitat

All applications will be ranked using an environmental benefits worksheet and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked on January 6, 2006, for county concerns. Next ranking period will be as needed. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if additional funds become available). The applicant’s last name will be selected alphabetically, in ascending order, to break a tie of environmental points between applications.

Applicants who wish to apply for conservation tillage can only apply 150 acres for 3 years.

Eligible Practices, Restrictions, and Cost-share rates approved by the Lawrence County USDA work group are the same as those on the NRCS lists below. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from these lists.
