Pike County 2006 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Pike County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2006 fiscal year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, forestland, or other land may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Pike County USDA Service Center located at 22 Henderson Highway, Troy, Alabama, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 12 noon and 1:00- 4:00 p.m. The telephone number for information is 334-566-2300, extension 3. The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Pike County as follows.

1. Water Quality-Animal Waste
2. Surface Water Quality-Erosion/Sedimentation
3. Water Quality-Grazing Lands
4. Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications will be scored by the state ranking criteria, which will result in an environmental point score. Multiple resource concerns will receive high consideration. Approvals will be given to the applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e., those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be January 6, 2006, and additional batching periods will be announced as needed.

Eligible practices and cost-share rates approved by the Pike County USDA work group are on the state list below. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from this list. Non-cost-shared land management practices may also be included in approved conservation plans.

Pike County Cost-Share Rates

Cost-share rates for practices will be set at no more than 50 percent, except for Limited Resource Farmers, who may be eligible for up to 90 percent cost-share.
