Shelby County 2006 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Shelby County will hold a continuous signup period for the Environment Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for FY 2006. Any eligible land user who has an approved resource concern may apply for assistant through this program.

Interested individuals may file an application at the Shelby County Field Office on Kelley Lane, Columbiana, Alabama. Office hours are 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 205-669-5121 and the fax number is 205-669-2930.

Applicants will also be accepted at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) located in the Federal Building Room 104, Talladega, Alabama. The telephone number for the FSA office is 256-362-8210, extension 2.

The USDA Advisory Work Group prioritized the resource concerns for Shelby County as:

  1. Erosion/Soil Quality
  2. Grazing Lands
  3. Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications received will be ranked according to Alabama 2006 EQIP ranking tool. Approved applications will be those that provide the greatest environmental benefits. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points.

Applications will be batched several times during the year. The first batching period will end on January 6, 2006. Any applications received after this date will be considered in the next batching pool if funds are available.

In case of a tie or ties bonus points will be awarded for:

  1. 303d streams
  2. Watershed Assessment
  3. the date application was received
  4. will draw from the hat in order to break ties.

Eligible Practices, Restrictions, and Cost-share rates are the same as the Alabama State approved lists. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority concerns will come from this list.
