Walker County 2006 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Walker County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2006 fiscal year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, forestland, or hay land may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Walker County NRCS Field Office located at 1710 Alabama Avenue, Room 207, Carl Elliot Building, Jasper, Alabama 35502. The telephone number is 205-387-1879. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Walker County as:

  1. Animals/Grazing Systems
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  4. Water Conservation
  5. Erosion/Soil Quality

Approved applications will be those that provide the greatest environmental benefits. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points.

The Statewide Ranking Tool will be used to rank all applications. Applications will be batched several times during the year. The first batching period will end on January 1, 2005. Any applications received after this date will be considered in the next batching pool if funds are available. In case of a tie between ranking sheets, the tiebreaker will be based upon the contract with the least cost.

Eligible Practices, Restrictions, and Cost-share rates will be the same as those on the NRCS State lists. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from these lists.
