Chilton County 2007 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Chilton County, Alabama, will hold a sign-up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2007 Fiscal Year.  This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, or forestland on your farm that you need assistance in treating, visit the NRCS Office and make an application at the USDA-NRCS Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located at 731 Logan Road, Clanton until October 13. Starting October 16, the office will be located at 210 7th Street South, Clanton, Alabama.  Phone is 205-755-0210, extension 3. Appointments are encouraged.

Applications will be taken through November 17, 2006, and be ranked using the state approved ranking sheets. Any funds not allocated during the first batching period will be available for subsequent batching dates on 15 day intervals.

The local concerns that have been prioritized are:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2.  Forest Health and Wildlife
  3.  Eroding Cropland/Soil Quality
  4.  Water Quality/Animal Waste

All applications will be ranked and approved based on an environmental ranking worksheet that will insure the most environmental benefit is received for the program dollar expended. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost share assistance than those individuals with lower points. In the event of a tie between applications, the application with the lowest cost for benefits obtained will be considered for cost share assistance. Secondary ties will be ranked and awarded using the Chilton County watershed assessment priority rankings.

All conservation practices listed in the Alabama NRCS State Practice and Restrictions List will be available for use in solving the conservation needs on the farm.

Various conservation practices such as no-till/con-till will have a 100 acre limit per applicant and a 3-year adoption of technology period limit.  Perimeter fencing shall be cost-sharable with the following stipulations:

  • participant will also install cross fence(s) to adequately permit the distribution of grazing and implement rotational grazing.
  • the perimeter fence shall be for lands in permanent forages of desirable forage species; or plant a desirable species that will provide nutrients to livestock.

Cost-share rates on all other practices will be the same as listed in the Alabama NRCS state approved list. The state-wide ranking sheet for the above listed resource concerns will be used in ranking the applications.
