Jefferson County 2007 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Jefferson County, Alabama, will hold a continuous signup period for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2007 Fiscal Year. Any eligible landuser who has an approved resource concern may apply for assistance through this program.

Interested individuals may file an application at the Jefferson County Field office located in Suite 320 of the Shelby Building, 600 Vestavia Parkway, Birmingham, Alabama. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 205-823-6400 and the fax number is 205-290-7450.

Applications will also be accepted at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) located in the Agricultural Service Center, 415 5th Avenue East, Oneonta, Alabama. The telephone number for FSA is 205-274-2363, extension 2.

The USDA Advisory Work Group prioritized the resource concerns for Jefferson County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  4. Soil Quality/Erosion

All applications received will be ranked according to National 2006 EQIP ranking tool. Approved applications will be those that provide the greatest environmental benefits. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points.

The first batching period will end on November 17, 2006. Any applications received after this date will be considered in the next batching pool if funds are available.

Jefferson County will use the NRCS State Practices and Restrictions and State Cost-share Rates lists. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority concerns will come from this list.

Date of application will be the first tie-breaker. The second tie-breaker will be tracts drawn at random.
