Marshall County 2007 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service in Marshall County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2007 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, or hayland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Marshall County USDA Service Center located at 1206 Gunter Avenue, Guntersville, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 256-582-3923 and the fax number is 256-582-1328. The local contact person is Stan Franklin, District Conservationist.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Marshall County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality (Animal Waste)
  3. Erosion/Soil Quality
  4. Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications will be ranked using an environmental benefits worksheet and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. If ranking points prove to be equal on one or more applications, there will be a drawing at a Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) meeting as a tie breaker.

Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will end November 17, 2006. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding, if additional funds become available. Pasture planting will be limited to a maximum of 100 acres per applicant. Tree planting will be limited to 50 acres or less per applicant.

Eligible practices and restrictions will be the same as the statewide list. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from this list.
