Mobile County 2007 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Mobile County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2007 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is designed to provide technical and financial assistance to correct or improve resource concerns or problems on cropland, pastureland, hay land, and woodland.

Applications for EQIP in Mobile County may be made at the NRCS/Mobile County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The office is located at 1070 Schillinger Road, N., in the Jon Archer Ag Center, Mobile, Alabama. The NRCS/District office telephone number is 251-441-6505.

The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications for local concerns will be on November 17, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. If you file an application later than the deadline for the first funding pool consideration, your application will be considered in the next pool of funding if additional funding is available at a later date.

The local concerns that have been prioritized are:

  1. Erosion/Soil Quality
  2. Grazing Lands
  3. Forestry Health and Wildlife
  4. Water Quality

All applications will be ranked and approvals based on an environmental ranking worksheet that will insure that the most environmental benefits are received for the dollars expended. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost share assistance than those individuals with lower points. Applicants will declare which concern he is applying for.

Limited Resource Farmers may be eligible to receive up to 90 percent cost-share. The first batching period for Limited Resource Farmers will be November 17, 2006.

Cost-share for Residue Management (conservation tillage) will be limited to 150 acres per applicant per year (three year maximum). Only acreage with 50 percent  or 75 percent residue after planting will be eligible. Persons already having approved systems of residue at these levels or have received EQIP payment for these residue levels are not eligible.

The cost-share percentage and eligible cost-share practices will be the same as set by the Alabama NRCS. Please refer to the Alabama NRCS state list for practices, cost-share rates, and restrictions.

In case of tie on ranking sheet: 1) Treated acres with the most HEL land and 2) Earliest sign-up.
