Monroe County 2007 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Monroe County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2007 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, forestland, or hayland on your farm that you need assistance in solving, you should come by the NRCS office and fill out an application. Our office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located at 334 Agricultural Drive Suite 103 in Monroeville. Our phone number is 251-743-2587, extension 3.

The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be November 17, 2006. If all monies are not obligated during the first batching period, additional batching periods will be held as needed until all funds are exhausted. Applications will be ranked and prioritized based on a state-wide ranking worksheet. Those applications with the highest point totals from this ranking worksheet will be funded first.

In the case of a tie in points, priority will be given to the application with the lowest cost. The applications will be prioritized based on local concerns. Special consideration will be given to Beginning Farmers and Limited Resource Farmers.

The local concerns that have been prioritized are:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Erosion/Soil Quality
  3. Forest Health and Wildlife
  4. Water Quality (Animal Waste)

Practices and cost-share percentages will be the same as the Alabama NRCS state list of practices and percentages. There will be a 50 acre limit per applicant for forest site prep and tree planting practices.
