Limestone County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service in Limestone County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, or hayland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the Limestone County USDA Service Center located at 1795B Highway 72 E., Athens, Alabama, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 256-232-4025, ext. 3 and the office fax number is 256-232-3510. The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Limestone County as:

  • Animals/Grazing Systems
  • Soil Quality/Erosion on Cropland
  • Water Quality/Animal Waste
  • Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications will be ranked using the NRCS Ranking Tool and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. In the event of a tie the lowest tract number will be chosen.

The first batching of applications will have a cut-off date of October 26, 2007. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if additional funds become available).

The Limestone County Work Group approved using the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule. Planned conservation practices used to address the priority resource concerns will come from this list. There is a 500 acre limit on Conservation Tillage for Soil Quality. If an applicant has received an incentive payment for this practice through the EQIP program in prior years, the applicant is ineligible for an incentive payment.
