Sumter County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA in Sumter County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on grazing lands, cropland, or timberland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Sumter County Soil and Water Conservation District, located at 106 Marshall Street in Livingston, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is (205) 652-7521. Applications may also be taken at the Farm Services Agency located at 307 Wilson Avenue, Eutaw, Alabama.

The USDA work group selected to prioritize the concerns listed below and to use all practices offered in the state list:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality (Animal Waste)
  3. Forest Health and Wildlife
  4. Soil Quality/Erosion

All applications will be ranked using a statewide environmental benefits worksheet and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated.

In the event of a tie, applications with the lowest amount will be funded in ascending order. The first batching period for ranking applications will end October 26, 2007. If all allocated monies are not obligated with the first ranking, then ranking will continue in 15-day intervals until all funds are obligated.

All conservation practices and cost-share rates will be the same as in the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule.  Limited resource farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.
