Talladega County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Talladega County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, forestland/wildlife land or hayland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS of the Talladega County USDA Service Center located at 127 East Street North (USPO) Talladega, Alabama 36207, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 256-362-8210, extension 3 and the fax number is 256-362-7712. Contact is District Conservationist Eddie May.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Talladega County as:

  1. Forest Health and Wildlife
  2. Animals/Grazing Systems
  3. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  4. Soil Quality/Erosion on Cropland

The incentive payment for residue management is limited to 40 acres per operator/person.

All applications will be ranked using the State-wide Ranking Worksheet. Approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated.

Applications will be batched on October 26, 2007, and ranked. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if additional funds become available).

All conservation practices and cost-share rates will be the same as in the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule.  Limited resource farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.
