February is Black History Month

What is Black History Month?
Negro History week was celebrated for the first time in 1926 due to the
efforts of a prominent black educator Dr.
Carter G. Woodson who was concerned that black history was not offered in
schools. February was
chosen because of the birthday celebrations
of two important figures in history--
Frederick
Douglass and
Abraham
Lincoln.
