| | Ruby Raindrop Information
Ruby Raindrop was created
in 1994 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by NRCS District Conservationist
Howard Whitaker. Cartoonist Bruce Plante, an award-winning, nationally
syndicated cartoonist, volunteered to draw her. Another volunteer,
Phillip Rodgers, completed the coloring book. The coloring book
was reviewed by a panel of teachers, then was published for districts.
Fay Garner, Alabama NRCS Public Affairs Assistant, wrote a story that was approved by the same teachers, to introduce Ruby
to students.
Ruby has met thousands of K-3 grade students in
Alabama and continues to stress the importance of clean water.
