The sign-up period CSP has been extended until May 30, 2008. This will give producers two
additional weeks to apply for the program in the Upper/Lower Choctawhatchee
River Watershed. The watershed covers the following counties in South Alabama:
Barbour, Henry, Dale, Coffee, Houston, and Geneva.

NRCS Chief Arlen Lancaster addressed the news media at a
meeting in February at the Alabama Farmers Federation
headquarters. The meeting brought together lawmakers,
scientists, and leaders of Alabama’s agricultural community to
promote better use of the state’s water resources and ensure
agriculture’s voice is heard as state government discusses water
management policies. |

Alabama NRCS and the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) entered into an
agreement to provide increased assistance to forest landowners in Alabama. This
joint partnership will help promote forest management, advance conservation on
forestlands, and improve delivery of technical assistance to private landowners
in Alabama. |
