Subject: ECS – Grazing Lands Training

Purpose: To provide information about grazing lands management and planning.

Expiration Date: November 30, 2006

Training for grazing lands management and planning is scheduled for NRCS conservation planners, October 31 – November 2. District Conservationists, Soil Conservationists, Soil Conservation Technicians, Resource Conservationists should attend. Other NRCS or Conservation District employees may attend with their supervisor’s approval. NRCS employees will receive credit towards recertification as a Certified Conservation Planner. Participants may attend any session as needed. ASTC-FO should email a list of attendees by location to Eddie Jolley by October 20.

The one-day sessions are scheduled as follows:

  • October 31, 2006: Luverne, AL, at the Tom Harbin Agricultural Center, 816 Airport Road. From downtown Luverne, go north on Highway 331 about 2 miles, turn right onto Airport Road. The center is located a short distance on the right.
     
  • November 1, 2006: Cullman, AL at the Cullman County Board of Education, 402 Arnold Street N.E., across the street east of the Cullman Field Office.
     
  • November 2, 2006: Clanton, AL, in the Alabama Room at the Alabama Power Company Clanton Conference Center, 2030 7th St. South, (Highway 31), I-65 Exit 205. When exiting I-65, travel west towards Clanton about one-half mile, the Center is on the right.

The training sessions will cover the following subjects: forages, fencing, pasture condition scoring, the Prescribed Grazing standard, planning documentation and electronic planning tools. Some activities will be outdoors so participants should dress appropriately.

Training sessions will start at 9:30 a.m. and end by 3:00 p.m. each day. Attendees should bring with them a copy of the Prescribed Grazing (528) standard.
