NCP Database correction for the CTA-General and CTA-GLC Programs based on land use.

PRS reports for FY 2007 show an increasing number of practice records with the wrong CTA program designation. CTA-GLC should be used in reporting grazing land use (grazed range, grazed forest, native and naturalized pasture and pasture); all other non-grazing land uses should be reported using CTA-General. Currently there are over 1.2 million acres of land units reported in FY 2007 with the wrong program based upon the land use, which is significantly affecting the Agency’s ability to accurately report performance.

To correct these data with minimal impact on the field, a script has been run against the National Conservation Practice Database (NCPDB) that identified practice records with the program CTA-General on land units with a grazing land use of grazed range, grazed forest, native and naturalized pasture, or pasture and has changed the program to CTA-GLC. The script also identified practice records where the program CTA-GLC was used and the land use was not one of the grazing land uses and changed the program to CTA-General. This change was done for both reported and unreported records, unless the record has already been reported as applied in a prior year.

This database correction may affect your state’s progress towards Performance Measures 1.10, 2.10, 2.20 and 3.10. States are not required to take any action as a result of this correction. However, please review your progress towards these performance measures to insure that you are aware of your current status.
Attached for your information is a spreadsheet with FY2007 data on the number of plans and practices by state affected by this modification.
