Alabama Bulletin No. AL300-8-2

Date:
  June 19, 2008

Subject:  LTP - Conservation Reserve Program - Critical Feed Use

Purpose:   To provide guidance concerning NRCS's role in providing technical assistance to landowners who are approved for critical feed use of their CRP land.

Expiration Date: September 30, 2008

This bulletin provides guidance concerning NRCS's role in providing technical assistance to landowners who are for approved for critical feed use of their CRP land. Beginning June 2, 2008, CRP participants may request to voluntarily modify CRP contracts for critical feed use, such as haying and grazing.

NRCS will be responsible for developing Critical Use Haying Plans and/or Critical Use Grazing Plans. At a minimum, these plans should consist of a stand-alone plan plus a signature sheet. These documents are attached. Normally, field visits should be completed to assess the stand and to work with the landowner on stocking rates and grazing heights. Field visits are especially important for land enrolled in CP4B and CP4D, to assess the forage and provide adequate guidance.

Note:  CRP Critical Feed Use Provisions only apply to land enrolled in the following CRP Practices:  CP1, CP2, CP4B, CP4D, and CP10.

Additional information and guidance is found in the attached documents:
