Applications Requested For State Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG)Auburn, Alabama State Sign-up Deadline March 14, 2008 Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Gary Kobylski announced that applications are being accepted for the Alabama Conservation Innovation Grants for fiscal year 2008. Applicants must be a Federally-recognized Indian Tribe, state or local unit of government, private business, or individual. Funding for CIG is made available through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. The purpose is to stimulate development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies in the state. Two categories are available for 2008: Natural Resource Concerns and Technology. Applications received after the March 14, 2008, date will not be considered for funding. CIG enables NRCS to work with public and private entities to accelerate technology transfer and adoption of promising technologies and approaches to address some of the Alabama's most pressing natural resource concerns. CIG will benefit agricultural producers by providing more options for environmental enhancement and compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations. The grant requires a 50-50 match between the agency and the applicant. Some in-kind contributions may be approved. Individual State grants will not exceed $75,000.
