Efficient center pivot irrigation system.Through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering a special project called Ground and Surface Water Conservation (GSWC).

The program has been funded and is ready to be presented to qualified applicants.  According to Bob Jones, NRCS State Conservationist, “The primary purpose of the special project is to promote ground and surface water conservation by providing incentive payments to producers to carry out eligible conservation activities in order to improve irrigation systems and/or enhance irrigation efficiencies.” Eligibility is for land that has been irrigated for two of the last five years prior to application.  Applications will be taken on a continuous sign-up basis.  All complete applications received by April 16, 2004, will be considered for funding.  Applications received after this date will be deferred until the next allocation of funds.
