Lee County NRCS/SWCD At The Fair

by Anne Miller, District Administrative Coordinator, SWCD/NRCS, Opelika, AL

Ben Burton, Lee County Farm Bill Technical Assistant and Lee County Earth Team Volunteer assisted with the Lee County Fair booth. The Lee County Fair attracts an assortment of individuals and provides an ideal opportunity for the Lee County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) to educate the general public about the services available from the local district office. The Earth Team Volunteers partnered with Lee County NRCS/SWCD to decorate and staff a booth at the local county fair.

This year’s theme for the booth was "Helping People Help the Land through Education and Assistance."

The booth included material relative to NRCS conservation programs and technical assistance, which is available to land owners. The booth also provided an opportunity to showcase examples of the conservation efforts going on in Lee County. The booth contained pictures and information about Earth Day celebrations with Lee County Schools and the 4 Annual Lee County Water Festival. The booth provided one more opportunity for students to share their conservation experiences with their families.

Over 18,000 people attended the Lee County Fair and the Lee County NRCS/SWCD had the privilege of sharing conservation materials to many of those attendees. Adults and children alike found items of interest at our fair booth.
