The Madison County SWCD Board is encouraging students to get involved in environmental issues. They sponsored four awards for the 55th North Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NARSEF) on March 4-6, 2009. The regional competition included students from grades 5-12 and was held at the University of Alabama, Huntsville Campus (UAH.

Rows of tables held well thought-out projects dealing with not only soil and water, drought and flooding; but environmental issues such as pollution and litter were presented. The entries were winners in their local schools.

The Madison County SWCD wanted to participation in this annual event  to encourage students to take an interest in farming, natural resources, and environmental issues.
