Geneva County Holds Area WRP Workshop

By Janie Howell, District Administrative Coordinator, Geneva County Soil and Water Conservation District, Geneva, AL

Workshop held to present program about WRP.
John Curtis addresses the group about WRP.

Geneva County hosted an area Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) Workshop in March at the Geneva County Farm Center. All landowners and farmers interested in WRP were invited to attend the Workshop.

The Workshop was sponsored by Geneva County SWCS/NRCS and Alfa Insurance.

WRP is a voluntary program that provides technical assistance and financial incentives to restore, protect, and enhance wetlands in exchange for retiring eligible land from agriculture. Wetlands provide valuable habitat for waterfowl and many other wildlife species.

Alabama NRCS State Office staff Steve Musser, ASTC for Programs; and John Curtis, Resource Conservationist, presented information on the program and held a question and answer session for those in attendance.
