| Water Awareness Training in Montgomery CountyBy Rory Stephens, Soil Conservation Technician, NRCS, Montgomery, Alabama
In April, the Montgomery SWCD/NRCS Field Office conducted Water Awareness training at the MacMillan International Academy in Montgomery, Alabama. The objective of the training was to inform youth about the importance of preserving and conserving limited natural resource. More than 80 1st and 2nd graders learned about the water cycle and its relationship to their daily lives. Home water use and ways to protect our streams, rivers and oceans was discussed. Students received a "Ruby Raindrop" coloring book and signed a "Promise Sheet," stating that they will help keep our water clean. Included in the training was the ballet of "Ruby Raindrop," and her never ending quest to teach children about clean water. The students applauded and hugged Ruby Raindrop (played by NRCS DC April Jones) as she greeted them after the training. Principal Edward Drozdowski, applauded and asked that the training become an annual event. |
