Group of teachers attending workshop.

Cullman County SWCD held a three-day workshop for 20 teachers in June at Camp Meadowbrook. This was the 13th year they hosted a workshop, and the second year for a three-day workshop.

Along with teachers from public, private, and home schools, this year some District Administrative Coordinators (DAC) and educational coordinators from other districts around the state attended.

On the first day, Stacy Little from Legacy, Jason Dockery from the State Forestry Commission, and the staff from the Cullman County SWCD presented programs.

The second day, a representatives from the Cullman County Alabama Cooperative Extension System presented.  Field trips were made to the Gold Vine Bee Farm and Birdsong Organic Farm.

After returning to Camp Meadowbrook,  Melba Jo Federer, a Cullman County District Supervisor, along with Deborah Widner, Cullman County DAC, demonstrated the district's portable cotton gin.

On the final day, the group toured Ingram Hatchery, Peinhart Living Farm, and the local farmers market.

Through grants and sponsorships,  recipients received books and lots of educational material. Through these workshops is it hoped that educators learned how they can incorporate environmental and conservation education into the classroom curriculum.
