Coffee County 2004 EQIP
Program
Executive Summary
The Natural Resources Conservation Service of USDA in Coffee County, Alabama,
will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for
the 2004 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.
Landowners/land users who have concerns relating to Grazing Lands, Erosion/Soil
Quality, Water Quality (Animal Wastes), Water Conservation, and At-Risk Species
Habitat (quail habitat) may apply.
Applications may be made at the NRCS office or FSA office of the Coffee
County USDA Service Center located in New Brockton. The mailing address for NRCS
is 3 Coffee County Office Complex, New Brockton, Alabama 36351. The mailing
address for FSA is P. O. Box 518, New Brockton, Alabama 36351. Applications will
be accepted Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The USDA Work Group has identified the resource concerns in Coffee County as:
- Erosion/Soil Quality (priority 1)
- Grazing Lands (priority 2)
- Water Quality - Animal Wastes (priority 2)
- Water Conservation (priority 2)
- At-Risk Habitat (priority 3)
Applications will be “batched” and ranked using the Statewide EQIP
Ranking Tool. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing
applications will be April 16, 2004. Any applications filed later than this date
will be considered at the next batching date. Approvals will be given to those
applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those
receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for
approved applications in order of descending environmental points until all
funds are obligated.
Eligible county cost-share rates and practices available below.
The following practices will be limited to 50 acres:
- Conservation Crop Rotation (Grass-based rotation)
- Early Successional Habitat Development/Management (for quail)
- Forest Stand Improvement (quail habitat management)
- Residue Management (no-till or strip till)
Pest Management (control of invasive species) will be limited to 25
acres.
