Fayette County 2004 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The local EQIP program signup for 2004 is open as of March 1, 2004, and signup is continuous. If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, or hayland on your farm that you need assistance to repair, come by the office and fill out an application. You can file this application at the USDA Service Center in Fayette, Alabama in the Natural Resources Conservation Service office and/or the Farm Service Agency office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The USDA Service Center is located on the 2nd floor of the courthouse annex building at 103 1st Avenue NW. Our telephone number is (205) 932-8959.

Applicants that meet the eligibility may sign-up as New/Beginning Farmers and Limited Resource Farmers. The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be for 35 business days ending April 16, 2004. If all funds are not allocated in the first batching period there will be additional batching periods every 30 business days thereafter. Any applications filed after the additional periods will be considered in the next pool of funding.

The local concerns have been prioritized as follows:

  1. Reduction of non-point source pollutants/Animal Waste
  2. Improvement of grazing lands health/Grazing Systems
  3. Reduction in soil and sedimentation/Erosion on Cropland

All applications will be ranked and approvals based on an environmental ranking worksheet that is being used for all counties in the State of Alabama. It will insure that the most environmental benefits are received for the dollars expended. In case of a tie of ranking points, the applications with the most resource concern descriptions will receive cost-share. All approved applications will be eligible to install practices on their farm at the average cost-share rate/percentages as determined at the state level with a limitation of 100 acres per farmer for residue management (no-till, strip till, ridge till and mulch till).

Please refer to the state list for practices, cost-share rates, and restrictions.

Applications may also be taken on-line at: http://www.sc.egov.usda.gov. Additional information is available at: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/eqip/.
