Crenshaw County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Crenshaw County, Alabama, is accepting applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 fiscal year. This signup is held on a continuous basis. Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem related to cropland, pastureland, hayland, or forestland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office in the Crenshaw County USDA Service Center located at 1682 South Forest Avenue on Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number is 334-335-3613, extension 3. The USDA Work Group in Crenshaw County has identified the following resource concerns which are listed in order of priority:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  3. Soil Quality/Erosion
  4. Forest Health and Wildlife

All applications will be ranked using the Alabama NRCS Statewide and Local Ranking Tool. Approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked.

The first batching period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be October 26, 2007. Any applications filed later than that date will be considered at the next batching date, dependent upon availability of funds. Eligible county practices are listed below. Payment rates for practice application will be according to an established rate schedule except for Limited Resource Farmers who will be paid at an increased payment rate. Additional local restrictions will apply as follows:

  • Tree planting limited to 150 acres per entity/contract
  • Maximum of 2 water sources (well/dug pond) per entity/contract . Wells must supply water for at least 3 pastures.
