Elmore County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Elmore County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis. Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, or forestland may apply for assistance through this program.

Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Elmore County USDA Service Center located at 105 Gossom Switch Road, Wetumpka, Alabama, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The telephone number is 334-567-2264, extension 3; the fax number is 334-567-2254. County contact is Pam Mason, District Conservationist.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resources concerns in Elmore County as:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Soil Quality/Erosion Control
  4. Invasive Species

All applications will be ranked using the Statewide EQIP Ranking Form and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e., those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked as needed. The first batching date for ranking and prioritizing applications will be October 26, 2008. Additional batching periods will be conducted as needed, if funds are available.

All conservation practices and cost-share rates will be the same as in the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule with the exception that Residue Management will be limited to 150 acres per applicant.  Limited resource farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.
