Montgomery County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in Montgomery County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 Fiscal Year. This signup will be held on a continuous basis.

Any eligible landuser who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, or forestland may apply for assistance through this program. Applications may be made at the NRCS office of the Montgomery County USDA Service Center located at 2000 Interstate Park Drive, Suite 101, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00p.m. The telephone number is 334-223-7257 and the fax number is 334-223-7458.  Contact District Conservationist April Jones.

The USDA work group has prioritized the resource concerns in Montgomery County as:

  1. Grazing Land
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Soil Quality/Erosion Control/Water Quality/Animal Waste

All applications will be ranked using an environmental benefits worksheet (ranking form below) and approvals will be given to those applications that will provide the greatest environmental benefits, i.e. those receiving the most environmental points. Applicants who can complete their practices within 18 months will receive priority for funding.

Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points, until all funds are obligated. Applications will be batched and ranked after October 26, 2007. Any applications filed later than this date will be considered in the next pool of funding (if additional funds become available).

Eligible practices, cost-share rates, and restrictions are the same as in Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule with the additional local restriction that all ponds must have fencing to protect the structure.  Limited resource farmers will be funded at a rate.
