Wilcox County 2008 EQIP Program

Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Wilcox County, Alabama, will hold a signup for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2008 fiscal year. The signup will be held on a continuous basis.

The first evaluation period for ranking and prioritizing applications will be October 26, 2007. Additional batching periods will be set as needed, until all monies are obligated.

If you have a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, or hay land on your farm that you need assistance to solve, visit the NRCS office in Camden, Alabama, between the hours of 8:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m., Monday through Friday. The office is located at 3 Camden Bypass Camden, Alabama, 36726. Phone: 334-682-4117, extension 3.  Contact District Conservationist Greg Dansby.

The overall objectives of the EQIP program is aimed at treating resource problems within Wilcox County to improve conservation and sustain the resources base. This includes cropland, pastureland, forestland, and environmentally sensitive areas and habitat sites impacted for food and fiber production.

The county concerns that have been prioritized are:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  4. Erosion/Soil Quality

All conservation practices and cost-share rates will be the same as in the Alabama NRCS state approved EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule.  Limited resource farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate. Grazing lands pest management practice will be limited to a maximum of 300 acres. Forest Stand Improvement will be limited to a maximum of 300 acres.

All applications will be ranked and approved based on a state-wide environmental ranking worksheet that will insure that the most environmental benefit is received for the dollars expended. Individuals with the highest point totals generated from this worksheet will be ranked higher in consideration to receive cost-share assistance than those individuals with lower points. In the case of a tie, the application with the lowest cost for the benefits obtained will be considered for cost-share assistance.
