Wildlife Habitat Conservation Management Systems FY2007

Woodland Wildlife

Concern: Lack of early successional components in the understory of woodlands dominated by pine or pine/hardwood ecosystem.

Early Successional Habitat Restoration or Improvement

Concern: Lack of early successional habitat of grass/shrub transition zones between forested areas and open fields. Lack of adequate nesting habitat and brood rearing areas in cropland, idle fields, pastures, native grasslands and cutover timberlands.

Longleaf Pine Habitat

Concern: Loss of the longleaf pine ecosystem within its historical range due to agricultural and silvicultural practices in the past.

Hardwood

Concern: Loss of quality hardwood habitat and ecosystem.

Shallow Water Development

Concern: Lack of wetland and shallow water ponds in the state to provide habitat for migratory waterfowl and wading birds.

Wetland Restoration

Concern: Conversion of wetlands across the state resulting in loss of this habitat for migratory waterfowl and wading birds.
